Aftermath

I would first like to thank everyone for making Midwest Pony Fest 2003 a HUGE SUCESS! I think everyone who attended met someone new, got something new, and had one heck of a good time! We played a wonderful set of games (you can see the listing on the Midwest Pony Fest 2003 page, where you will also find links to photos from the meet), shared our pony stories, traded ponies (of course) and watched pony movies. How much better could it possibly get? And now, for the listing of the wonderful winners of Pony Fest 2003:

The Dicey Pony Race was a big winner at this year's pony fest! Popular as usual, the grand prize winner for the second year in a row was a Baby Bowtie. However, this year she belonged to Ringlets, a different owner than last year's winning Baby Bowtie. I guess those Baby Bowties just have really athletic genes in them! The other placements in the pony race were as follows:

2. Twilight pony charm owned by Cotton Candy
3. Nibbles owned by Rainribbon
4. Custom Newborn UK Lollipop owned by Kit (made by Claire)
5. Newborn Wiggles owned by Wildshadow/Ombrefeu
6. Baby Sparkle Gusty owned by Goofy
7. Baby Lickety Split owned by Nala
8. ULTIMATE LOSER!! - Custom Baby Flower Dream made and owned by Fire Muse

Perverted Ponies took center stage at this year's meet. The display of Flamin' A' and the unfinished custom Satan (by two separate customizers) in the three-entrant custom contest caused a new "Most Perverted" sectional category to be added! Rainribbon's PDWF (Pony Dragon Wrestling Federation) display, which consisted of a formerly beddy bye eyed Baby Heartthrob with flashing LEDs installed in lieu of her rusty eyes and several attacking dragons (the large blue dragon flaps its wings and its eyes light up, while Baby Heartthrob jiggles uncontrollably as she faces it), took "Judge's Favorite." "Prettiest Pony" went to Fire Muse's Baby Flower Dream, and Mirror Mirror's Flamin' A' was the proud winner of the Ultimate Loser award for the Custom Contest 2003. Mirror Mirror, whose sister's custom received the Ultimate Loser award for 2002, proclaimed that winning the Ultimate Loser award for customs is now a family tradition.

A Toys 'R' Us invasion was in order as evening of the first day approached. Six ponypeople and one Dragged Husband stormed the Crystal Lake toystore, frightening its proprietors as they destroyed several small Lego villages in an effort to reach the ponies. When asked whether there were more ponies in the back, Toys 'R' Us employees claimed that they were cleaned out, but suspicions remain among the ponypeople present at the time.

Those who spent the night at the Karate School, Dragged Husbands included, engaged in further exercise of 1980s nostalgia by playing ponies when they returned to the crash space. After the ponypeople hungrily ripped open the boxes and liberated their recent purchases, Razzaroo's birthday party began in the 2003 Cotton Candy Cafe. Flamin' A' enjoyed a wonderful night on the town while the other ponies debated the importance of having five-pronged forks as opposed to the typical four-pronged human ones. On the second day of the pony meet, the star of the Pony Name Search was Rgpunzel, Rapunzel's twisted sister. Unfortunately, Rapunzel had been misspelled on the word search, and therefore her custom sibling was the only Rapunzel to be found. The poor victims (err, players) of the word search spent very long periods of time sifting through each line of letters individually, but to no avail! The laugh was on us!

Ah, yes! The Pony Song Competition! This hilarious game will definitely be repeated in future pony meets. Here, contestants cruelly replayed My Little Pony cartoon songs over and over until they could achieve the proper rhythms, then rewrote the songs to fit new themes. Song entries are as follows (in order from first to third place):

"Merchandise Pony" by Mirror Mirror (sung to the tune of "The My Little Pony Theme Song"):

My Little Pony
Teeny Bopper Pony
How does my hair look today?

My Little Pony
Giggly Ponies
That's my cell phone ringing, not yours, okay?

Where will you wander?
Strip mall and yonder?
Letting credit cards be your guide!

My Little Pony
My Little Pony
It's all about merchandise!

"Call Upon the Seaponies when you need a Snack" by Rainribbon (sung to the tune of "Call Upon the Seaponies;" insert "I'm hun-gry, hun- hun- hun-gry" for "Shoop be do, shoop shoop be do" segments at appropriate moments):

Call upon the Seaponies
When you need a snack!
Tasty as can be ponies,
Better than Big Macs!

If you find you're so hungry
You're dying for a bite
Come down to Munchy's Café
We're open late at night!

Are you starving yet?
Did you miss your lunch?
Feeling your stomach rumble
You'd really like to munch...

Call upon the Seaponies
When you need a snack!
Tasty as can be ponies,
Better than Big Macs!

If your tummy isn't full, and you are suffering - now!
Call upon the seaponies,
They make some good chow!

Seaponies, seaponies, better than Big Macs!
Seaponies, seaponies, when you need a snack!
...
Oh yeah!

"We're Sick Little Ponies" by Cotton Candy (sung to the tune of "We're Not Gonna Freeze" from the cartoon episode "Baby, It's Cold Outside"):

We're sick minded ponies,
Uh huh!
The sickest ponies ever!
We're always in the mood for playing "games"
In any kind of weather!

We're sick little ponies,
Uh huh!
With very twisted minds.
Even looking high and low,
A sicker one you won't find!

Another excellent addition to this year's pony meet, which will also be repeated in future meets, was the Custom Pony Race! Nala's 2003 Christmas Pony received much acclaim from all, and took the grand prize from the judges, who conferred over their tough decision for several minutes as ponypeople peeked anxiously through the windows at them. In second place was Rainribbon's Chameleon Pony, and in third place was Cotton Candy's and Kit's combined effort Evening Star, the latter of which also won the "Most Ambitious Award" for the time allotted.

Finally, leading up to the above-mentioned Custom Race, Pony Beheading developed into yet another fantastic spectator sport as ponypeople and husbands of ponypeople fought the tough glue on pony heads that needed to be removed for customizing! Had we had an award for Toughest Head to Pull, it would've gone to 2003 Sparkleworks, whose head Rodney violently ousted from its body in an impressive Highlander-style display of masculinity! You could definitely feel the Quickening as he held up the trophy head in triumph!
